Golden Globes Recap

It's officially awards season! Last night was the 70th annual Golden Globe Awards. The Globes are my favorite awards show because everyone is drunk (including me). In case, you missed it, here's a list of some of my favorite and least favorite things of the night.

Best Dressed: I didn't think that it was a great night for fashion overall, but there were a few really well-dressed women. Lea Michele, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jennifer Lawrence, and Jennifer Garner all looked stunning, but the best-dressed in my book was Jessica Alba. I loved the simple dress with the big diamond necklace, and her hair and makeup were spot-on.

Worst Dressed: Oof. Lena Dunham. Girl. This dress was. not. flattering. Please never wear princess seams again. She won big at the awards show, but not on the red carpet.

Biggest Fashion Trend: Red-orange dresses were huge on the red carpet, as evidenced by Jennifer Lawrence, Claire Danes, and Marion Cotillard.

Best Joke: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler absolutely KILLED IT as hosts. I wish they'd been on more because they were hilarious. The best joke of the night goes to them during a moment in their opening dialogue when they were talking about Katherine Bigelow when they said, "When it comes to torture, I trust the lady who was married to James Cameron for 3 years."

Crushable

Most Confusing: Jodie Foster won the Cecil B. Demille Award and gave a rambling speech during which she came out as a lesbian. She used it as an opportunity to rail against the paparazzi and reality television, and allude to retirement. There was a period of silence, too. Not sure whether someone was cursing or what happened. It was all very strange. She looked great, though.

Newsday

Winner I Want To Hang Out With The Most: Adele. She won for her song "Skyfall" and high-fived James Bond himself. She said she was out with a friend of hers who's also a new mom, and that they "pissing [themselves] laughing." Love her.

  1. But really, let's go be best friends with Adele. It needs to happen. Also, thank you for giving me the highlights because I didn't watch last night and now I feel like an asshole.

  2. Totally agree with your choices of best/worst dressed. I guess it helps that I'm not a Lena Dunham fan so I'm already inclined to not like her. I LOVED Jessica Alba's whole outfit, I guess it's the most like something I would wear. As we were watching it, Dan asked if I wanted a necklace like hers, haha. And we googled it during the show, but I guess Jodie Foster had already come out a long time ago? I guess just never in a big announcement or anything. To be honest, I sort of stopped paying attention halfway through her speech because it was so rambling. Also, because I was googling her to figure out when she came out. I had no clue before last night though!

  3. Adele, Tina, and Amy were the best things about the entire show and I want to be friends with all of them. Overall, the fashion was a little boring to me. I wanted a showstopper, but I didn't see anything that really wowed me.

    1. Agreed. Nothing was incredibly beautiful or horribly ugly. Most things were just OK.

  4. I love a good recap! I thought there were a lot of stars rocking the old Hollywood glamour look. Jessica Alba did look great, although when she was on stage, I kind of wanted to hike her dress up a quarter inch. I also thought Rachel Weisz looked amazeballs! She was my fave of the night.

I agree that Lena's dress isn't flattering. It's not awful, but she could have found something better suited to her body type.*
